The weather outside is getting cooler and as cozy as it may seem, it may not always be good for your muscles. During the cold season we tend to tense up more and our muscles contract. Not only is that bad for our muscles, but it is also bad for our joints and it causes us pain. Hot Stone Massage Therapy uses heat to ease muscle stiffness and increase circulation. The massage therapist incorporates the warm stones, allowing them to access deeper muscle layers. The hot stones can also aide in relief due to pain caused by fibromyalgia, arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome and other chronic conditions. Other benefits include: a decrease in pain and muscle spasms, reduction in chronic stress and tension, increased flexibility in joints, and pain reduction created by strained and contracted muscles.
This month we have paired our Hot Stone Massage with Peppermint aromatherapy. The most common way massage therapists use essential oils during massage is to place drops in the oil and use this blend as a lubricant during the massage. Peppermint oil is a cooling and refreshing essential oil that helps ease sinus and chest congestion. This is perfect, especially during the winter months when a lot of us are getting sick.
